Comments: Road Runner Ridge is a new California winery bonded this year and located in North San Diego County. It is nestled on a hillside 10 minutes south of Temecula and 10 minutes east of Fallbrook. The Rainbow area is untouched by the hustle and bustle of modern day. Our vineyard lies on a rocky, clay hillside at 1500 feet. Warm days with afternoon breezes ripen the grapes and the coastal influence provides cool evenings for quality grapes. Road Runner Ridge is owned and operated by Jim & Judi Brady, who have made wine for over 30 years, and planted their own vineyard in 2008. It means a lot to own the vineyard and have total control of aspects of winemaking. You can’t make great wine out of bad grapes. Our focus is on Rhone and other warm weather varietals which prosper in our Mediterranean climate. We produce small, handmade lots and many unique blends. Road Runner Ridge is located on the property formerly known as Rusty Acres Herb Farm, which grew beautiful Lavender & Herbs for 8 years. Rocky Hill Vineyard was created when our business, Rusty Acres Herb Farm was forced to close down due to the wild fires in October of 2007. We lost our nursery plants due to lack of water during the 6 day evacuation. We decided to try our hand at growing grapes in early 2007 when Jim made a few cuttings from a single Syrah vine we had planted in 2003. A few cuttings survived (about 80) that he planted in April 2007 in our “Chicken House” vineyard as an experiment. We began hand clearing the hillside for the main vineyard in October of 2007. Several tons of rocks were removed, thus the name Rocky Hill Vineyard. We selected grape varietals based on the similarity to the climate and terrain in Provence, the Rhone Valley in France or Tuscany in North Italy. Primarily Rhone varietals were selected.
